Dictionary Consulting Competition
In order to test the students' ability to look up dictionaries, stimulate their interest in using dictionaries as reference books, develop their habit of looking up  dictionaries frequently, and cultivate students' self-learning ability, our school held the ‘Spring Cup’ dictionary consulting contest in Grade 2 on the afternoon of 14th December.
Specifically, in this competition, we tested students' proficiency in various dictionary search methods by means of the written test. To start with, at the beginning of the competition, the students all looked focused, and tried their best, who sometimes quickly read the dictionary, and sometimes bowed their heads to write seriously. Thus, the atmosphere was intense. What’s more, during the competition, the students all showcased good learning ability and proficiency in using dictionaries. For example, some glyphs were more complex. However, students could use different methods to quickly look up the words they have never seen before and choose the right answer according to their own judgment.

Class 203: First prize winner: Fang Haoyang; Second place contestants: Wu Jinghan and Wu Chengxuan; Third prize candidates: Cheng Kangde and Wang Lei
Class 204: First prize winner: Yao Yunwei; Second place candidates: Jiang Xusen and Wangyang Jingxuan; Third place competitors: Yu Xinyan and Zhan Wenle
Class 205: First prize winner: Chen Zixi; Second prize winners: Zha Yuxuan and Hu Yihan; Third place competitors: Pan Zilin and Li Yitong
Class 206: First prize winner: Gan Lu; Second place contestants: He Junxi and Ge Kexin; Third place candidates: Han Yichen and Fang Shiyuan
Class 207: First prize winner: Dong Junxian; Second prize winners: Chen Haoran and Chen Yuanxing; Third place winners: Chen Shulin and Chen Ruixi
In conclusion, the dictionary consulting competition enabled students to further master the method of phonetic order and radical dictionary search so that students could reach the level of proficiency, who really felt the power and charm of the dictionary as a ‘silent teacher’.
